We need your help so we can help our neighbors!

Families like Sylvan and Sheria Kasondwa’s (above) need a network of people, support services, and opportunities to move from surviving to thriving. The Kasondwas fled violence-plauged Congo, became refugees in Uganda, and after an arduous process gained admittance to the United States. They arrived locally in 2016 with their four children, and began yet another journey.

Six percent of Charlottesville’s population is comprised of refugees and Special Immigrant Visa-holders who aided U.S. military operations in Iraq or Afghanistan. Already in debt for airfare to the U.S., our refugee neighbors struggle with low-paying jobs and high rent, depend on spotty public transportation, and generally lack support networks.

Your tax-deductible donation provides a direct link to the skills and services our newly arrived neighbors need to flourish. With your help, they can establish homes and secure the health care, job skills, and network of friends that lead to self-sufficiency.

Thanks to Great Neighbors like you, more refugee and SIV families can move from surviving to thriving—and make our community a more diverse and vibrant place to live.
