International Neighbors is mobilizing to improve access to virtual public education, and provide support for remote learning to our refugee students and their parents. These efforts include:

  • Creating "learning pods" for our English Language Learning (ELL) students who need the most support with remote learning.                                

         COST: $360 - 1 week, 6 students; $6,000 - 16 weeks, 6 students

  • Providing scholarships for students with English proficiency to join learning pods with classmates.                                                                                    

         COST: $60 - 1 week, 1 student; $960 - 16 weeks, 1 student

  • Hiring learning guides to support families schooling at home.

         COST: $6,000 - 1 temporary (16 weeks), part-time ELL learning guide

  • Providing technical support for families to ensure access to remote learning, and communication between parents and teachers.                                  

         COST: $100 - $300 to provide needed devices or WiFi hotspot for 1 family

  • Providing school supplies, including calculators when needed, to students schooling at home.                                                                                        

         COST: $40 - 1 student 

Your tax-deductible donation can help ensure that refugee students have equitable access to public education, and support for remote learning, during Charlottesville City Schools' Covid-19 protocols. IN's three learning pods currently support 18 ELL students. But we have more than 300 families in our network, with an average of 2-3 school-age children in each household.
